Belle Delphine has started selling her used bath water on her store page for $30 a jar. Not only that, but Belle Delphine has sold out of her bath water, forcing interested parties to turn to second-hand sellers if they want to own a jar for themselves. The bath water, which Delphine insists is genuine, is “not for drinking and should only be used for sentimental purposes.”
If there are any laws against selling used bath water, we’re not privy to them, but something that could potentially get Belle Delphine in trouble is that she is selling the jars with an Xbox 360 controller on the lid (complete with the Xbox logo), and the promotional image for the jar includes D.Va’s name from Overwatch. D.Va from Overwatch is a character that Belle Delphine has cosplayed in the past, but cosplaying is different than using someone else’s intellectual property to sell a product.
Blizzard has seemingly attempted to keep the Overwatch brand separate from the Internet’s more sexualized corners. While it hasn’t officially commented on things like the abundance of bootleg Overwatch porn, it has allegedly used the firm Irdeto to send takedown notices to people using Overwatch characters for inappropriate things. Due to the very nature of the Internet, it seems Blizzard’s attempts to reign in this kind of content is futile, and it’s impossible to completely erase it.
Whether or not Blizzard has a problem with Belle Delphine attaching the Overwatch brand to her jars of used bath water remains to be seen. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what kind of stunt Delphine pulls off next, and if she will be able to top this one.
