Gamers who purchase the Xbox 360 version of Forza Horizon 2 will not have access to the DLC that Xbox One users will be able to acquire through the game’s $25 Car Pass. Not only this, but Xbox 360 gamers will not be able to make use of the Forza Rewards program that incentivizes devoted players.

This comes as part of a post to the game’s official forum by community manager Brian Ekberg. In it, he spoke about the game’s first DLC pack - the Mobil 1 Car Pack, which is out now - before going on to explain the situation for Xbox 360 gamers. While certain limitations like a lack of DLC are to be expected from a port of this nature, it’s unfortunate to hear that these gamers will also miss out on Turn 10 Studios’ loyalty program.

Considering it’s a program meant to reward devoted fans, it’s too bad that some sort of incentive could not be levied towards last-gen consumers. Even without this additional content though, Forza Horizon 2 certainly has no shortage to cars to strive for. In this way, it’s no surprise that the game is being received so well (check out our review).

With the launch window of the Xbox One well behind us, it’s likely that the frequency with which gamers see cross-generational games will begin to drop significantly. Not only does the development incur an extra cost for the teams behind them to contend with, but last-generation iterations rarely stand as shining examples of quality. The public eye is firmly set on the latest iteration, so the more care that can be put into bettering these experiences and pushing this new hardware forward, the better.

Do you prefer Forza Horizon 2’s open-road format to Forza 5’s linear model? Where would you like to see the series go next?

Forza Horizon 2 is out now for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
